Baltimore Child Abuse Center's (BCAC) mission is to provide all reported victims of child sexual abuse in Baltimore and their non-offending caretakers with comprehensive forensic interviews, medical treatment, and mental health treatment with a goal of preventing future abuse.

Baltimore Child Abuse Center is a leader in responding to and preventing child sexual abuse. Our primary activities focus on intervention when abuse is reported, treatment to aid in the healing of survivors and their families, education around recognizing, preventing, and reporting suspicions of abuse, and advocacy at the local, state and national levels. BCAC’s comprehensive services in these areas address the immediate and long-term challenges that child sexual abuse poses to the Baltimore region. BCAC gives children a voice.

BCAC is a not for profit agency forged in collaboration to provide better outcomes and responses for children and family dealing with child abuse. Providing services for law enforcement, social services, and prosecutors, BCAC investigates more than 1,000 cases of child sex abuse each year. Supported by the generosity of foundations, corporations and individuals as well as government grants, BCAC has 25 years of experience in recognizing, responding to and reporting child abuse and utilizes this experience to conduct these detailed forensic interviews, prepare reports, and testify in criminal and civil proceedings regarding the child's interview, mental development and psychology of disclosures. BCAC is accredited by the National Children's Alliance and is the third oldest child advocacy center in the United States. Today over 800 centers are in operation.

Our History

2 kids 2009

We are dedicated to helping victims of child sexual abuse in Baltimore City…

In 1987, the Baltimore Child Abuse Center (BCAC) opened in response to growing awareness that sexually abused children were not only suffering the lasting effects of abuse, but they were also being re-victimized by the lengthy and often repetitive investigative process intended to help them. BCAC has since developed a coordinated response that has resulted in timely, child-sensitive investigations of child sexual abuse in Baltimore City.

…and working to end child sexual abuse throughout Maryland.

BCAC is committed to ending child sexual abuse in Maryland. It can be done if we, as adults, learn more about this crime of secrecy and take responsibility for protecting our children. At BCAC we know far too well that children cannot protect themselves from sexual predators and need their families and communities to step in and protect them from abuse.
